Design Thinking Life Process

To design our lives we need courage, the ability to reflect on ourselves, and a personal vision of the change.

The Design Thinking mindset actively initiates positive change and transformation. The best way to learn about it is by doing. During my time at Spark Works, I had the opportunity to design and facilitate a workshop around the topic “Design your PhD life" were using the Design Thinking approach participants worked together designing future paths for their doctoral life.

About the workshop

Participants were immersed in a practical exercise in which they reflected on, rethought, and designed their doctoral life paths using the Design Thinking principles. I called it the Design Thinking Life process and it had the following objectives:

- Acquire a basic understanding of the Design Thinking process, principles, key tools and terminology.

- Allow each participant to experience multidisciplinary collaboration between PhD students from other disciplines.

- Introduce "learning by doing" the key concept of Design Thinking to the participants, providing an overview of how Design Thinking is applied and explore how the methodology could help them explore and transform their lives around their PhD studies.

- Inspire participants to think about their future, step out of their comfort zone in order to broaden their horizon and understand the added value of Human-Centered Design applied to their own lives.

Outcome: Future thinking scenarios and steps towards the future.
